Fluoride in New Hampshire Water
Fluoride is a naturally occurring element in New Hampshire’s bedrock. As such, it is frequently present in deep, drilled wells. Fluoride has no taste, odor, or color.
Problems
There are really no aesthetic household (staining of porcelain) problems associated with Fluoride and no clogging of pipes. Fluoride has no taste, odor, or color, and the only way to determine whether your well is producing it is to test for it at a laboratory.
Health Risks
Fluoride at low concentrations is beneficial, preventing tooth decay. Optimum levels in public drinking water as set by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) are at 1.1 ppm. However, at higher concentrations, it can pose health concerns. The secondary standard as set by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is 2.0. It is at this level that it can cause staining of tooth enamel. It is not required by the EPA to treat, but only to notify customers of public water systems. The primarily maximum EPA Concentration is 4.0 ppm. It is at this level that studies have shown the possibility of skeletal fluorosis, as well as the staining of teeth. It is at this level that the EPA requires notification, as well as to treat public water systems.
Treatment Options
There are a few treatment options for the reduction and removal of Fluoride. They are Distillation, Activated Alumina, and Reverse Osmosis. Reverse Osmosis is by far the most cost-effective way to reduce/remove Fluoride from drinking water. Either a point-of-use RO or a whole house RO can be installed to treat Fluoride.

Jared came out to give me an estimate on a job as I had some major concerns on my end. (He was here for a good while ) He was extremely informative extremely patient and told me exactly what I needed to do. Did not try to sell me anything did not try to push me to do anything I didn’t need to do. This company is extremely honest. I’ve dealt with many companies in the past. I called them for a follow up question regarding my well water pump, and Jared explained everything I needed to know and there was no charge.
I can tell you from experience another company would’ve charged for the service call.

Very professional service right from the phone call for an appointment. Stephanie is always a pleasure to talk with and knowledgeable about her crews schedules.Technician came over and explained the system to us as we just bought in October. We've had McBride Water Advantage for both of our homes. No problems at all. Good company and really nice service people. We just had our filtration system serviced 4/28/25. The man the sent to clean and check on our system was awesome. I've never had any complaints about the company.
It's 4/09/26. Just had them here servicing and cleaning our filtration system again. It's been a year since their last service. The gentleman that came today was great. They hire such smart people. When he was done servicing my system, I had a few questions for him and he took out his little kit and tested my water to try to solve the issue I had. We have a well and the system I have works great for the well issues. But I had a build up in my glass teapot that was bothering me. I showed it to him, he did a little testing on my kitchen water spout and found the issue. The water from the filtration system is very good water. But I have an additional problem that can be taken care of but doesn't need to. It won't hurt us in our drinking water. But I need a softener to get rid of that buildup. In my teapot I was given an estimate along with the bill for services today. Not sure if we'll go with it or not but it's good to know what's going on. A heck of a nice guy and very thorough. I like McBride water advantage. They've always done well for us.
